Getting Your Lexar Media Reader to work with Windows XP!

Do you have a Lexar Media Card reader like the one pictured at the left? A USB Model that works with Windows and Macintosh?
Well It won't work on Windows XP.....or will it?

If you go to the Lexar Media Site you will find the latest drivers for this excellent reader.

Latest Windows Drivers from Lexar

Update from Lexar!

However this driver does not support Windows XP!

Carry Computer Engineering Company in Taiwan has built readers for other Lexar devices and I assumed that they may have made this reader as well. Their UISMA and UISDA readers resemble the Lexar reader and their software IS XP compatible! Download them from the link below.

Drivers from Carry Computer

  1. Install the drivers.
  2. In Windows XP choose "Add New Hardware"
  3. Your reader should show up as USB Device with a Question Mark on it. Choose it.
  4. Have windows search you driver for the drivers...it will find the ones you just installed. Tell windows to use them.
  5. Windows XP will tell you these driver have not been test....that is OK, they work fine.
  6. After finishing with the Add New Hardware wizard, open My Computer and your Lexar Media Reader should show up in the Drive Section as two new drives! Simply insert a card and windows will start reading it and what you do with images then is up to you!

Update from Lexar!

After contacting tech support with the problem. A Lexar tech support person sent me a link to a driver page not listed on the web-site. The FTP site contains the new version 4.6 drivers for WindowsXP. I can only assume these are beta drivers or are awaiting "signing" by Microsoft, since they are not on the main site. However they are better drivers than the ones mentioned above in my procedure, so I whole heartedly recommend you download and install them! You can get them here:
